Port Commissioners Approve Strategic Plan

Post Date:09/27/2017 3:20 PM

Following three public meetings and a review of comments from the public, the Port of Chelan County Commissioners approved their 2018-2025 Strategic Plan.

Today’s approval caps a six month process including modeling successful economic development strategies throughout the region, visiting communities to understand specific examples of success, and outreach and extensive meetings with Chelan County citizens, business and civic leaders and elected officials.

The Plan includes Goals for the Port’s three lines of business, including Pangborn Memorial Airport, Real Estate development and management, and economic development.

“Public input was extremely helpful in building the Strategic Plan which will guide the Port toward business and job growth, increased air service and financial sustainability at Pangborn, and a stronger Chelan County economy”, stated Commission President Donn Etherington.

Commission Vice President Rory Turner commented that “We’re very  encouraged by this plan. It was time for a refresh, and I’m happy to say all three commissioners and our staff believe we have a document that sets us on the right path. Now we all have to get out there and execute.”

Commissioner JC Baldwin, now completing her second term on the Port Commission and preparing for her third, said “The new Plan will build on past successes and partnerships and focuses on the need to keep pushing to modernize our regional airport, promote Chelan County to the world, and make sure we work closely with the private sector to insure the availability of buildings and land to allow for job growth.”

The Port’s new Strategic Plan can be found at www.PortofChelanCounty.com/Strategic-Plan. Highlights include: strategies to increase reliability and air service at Pangborn; expanding the relationship with Chelan County businesses to support their success and expansion; and increasing targeted business development and marketing efforts to diversify our employment base with industries that fit Chelan County in scale and type. Industry sector committees have been established for that purpose, including technology, agriculture, manufacturing, outdoor recreation and real estate.
